Surname: Macias

My name is Amelia Macias. I'm trying to get information on relatives on my father's side of the family. At this time, I have very little information to go on, but hope that as I research chruch records, and known relatives that I may be able to supply information in more detail.

My father, Jose Jesus Tostado Macias was born in Jalpa, Zacatecas in 1923. He has siblings by the names of Antonio (died in Aguascalientes), Angel (no info but presume he was born in Jalpa), Socorro born in Jalpa and died there at age 32 or so. my father Jose Jesus and the youngest, Jovita born in Jalpa ( 10 April 1931 (married Andres Marin also from Jalpa, were married in Jalpa).

My grandfather was Jose Macias born about 1860 - 1880 in Jalpa. Grandmother's last name was Tostado, first name unknown also birthdate unknown, but believe she died in 1960 in Jalpa. May have been married between 1900 - 1910 and I assume in Jalpa as well.

My father believes that my Tio Antonio's family (wife Socorro he thinks) and their children still live in Jalpa.

If you have any information about the Macias' of Jalpa, Zacatecas, please feel free to contact me. I will post more info as I acquire it. If at all possible, please write in English, but Spanish is OK too.

    Respectfully, Amelia Macias

    Macias in Jalpa

    Amelia:

Welcome to the group. I am sure you will find lots of people here willing to help you with your search.

Genealogy is all about establishing a paper trail that you can follow. You are in for a bit of a rocky ride because it appears that the baptism documents from Jalpa for the relevant period (1860-1880) are not filmed by FHL. I don't know if they were destroyed or simply not filmed. In any case, you will have to look somewhere else.

The first place to start is to find out your grandmother's last name. The birth certificate or baptism record of your father/mother should list this and if it is a Mexican birth certificate or baptism record, it should also list the grandparents' names in which case you would have your great-grandparents' names.

The other place to look is border crossing records and social security death records. If your mother/father immigrated from Mexico, there should be a border crossing record with his/her parents' names and date and place of birth.

Likewise if your grandfather or father/mother received social security and has passed away, the Social Security Administration will supply you with their social security registration which should likewise list their parents' names and date and place of birth.

The FHL does have civil registry films for marriages between 1900 and 1910 for Jalpa so that may also be a good bet. The marriage registry should list Jose Macias' and ??? Tostado's parents' names.

Matrimonios 1906-1909 VAULT INTL Film 773886
Matrimonios 1910-1912,1918-1920 VAULT INTL Film 773887

    Good luck.

Amelia, I inquired regading marriage certicates at the main church in Jalpa,
last year. Unfortuntely, before 1910 they do not have the records but the
lady told me that surrounding towns might have them, so it will be a struggle.
You might, check out films from LDS regarding surrounding towns, for example
Juchipila was at a time the main town where the records where kept.

    Amelia,
I have found many records of families from Jalpa in Nochistlan, Zac, you might also try Calvillo Aguascalientes or Tabasco Zacatecas.

That is correct. The lady from the church did mention Tabasco, so that is
probably a good place to start.
