While we are on the subject of books and historians, does anyone know if
there are any books on Yahualica or Cuquio, Jalisco? Or on Nochistlan,
    Zac?

    Raquel,

Two books about the first families that settled in Nochistlán and the surrounding areas are:

1.. "NOCHISTLAN, ZACATECAS, Su Parroquia, Los Durán y otras familias antiguas. Estudio Histórico-Genealógico" by Ing. Jesús Durán Rodríguez.

2.. "GENEALOGIA DE NOCHISTLAN, Antiguo Reino de la Nueva Galicia en el siglo XVII, según sus Archivos
Parroquiales" by José Luis Vásquez y Rodríguez de Frías.
Both are out of print but can be found at the Genealogy Section of some Public Libraries in the US. Usually this type of book is not in circulation for reference only.

Thanks for getting back to me. Luckily, I own a copy of the second book. I
hope to spend a day in the Boston Library this summer, checking out what
they have. I'll look for NOCHISTLAN, ZACATECAS. Do you know whether it
includes the story of the history of the city, in addition to genealogical
    references?

    Raquel,

The book "NOCHISTLAN, ZACATECAS..." by Ing. Jesús Durán Rodríguez includes
bits-and-pieces of the history of Nochistlán, but it deals primarily with
the genealogy of the first Spanish settlers. It is not intended as a
history book. I found it very interesting and helpful. I was lucky enough
to get a copy shortly after the author died 8-10 years ago. I don't think
    there will be a reprint.

I cannot remember the title of another book I have that deals with the four
locations of the capital of Nueva Galicia. As I recall the first one was
Santiago de Compostela, then Nochistlán, then Tonalá (?) and finally
Guadalajara. Not sure, but I can check. If you're interested I can look
for the book next time I go to the warehouse (too many books at home, so I
had to rent a climate-controlled ministorage to keep some of them).

    Hello Rick,

I really don't know if any library here in the US has it, but the LDS
Library in Salt Lake City might have a copy. I understand that some of
their books have been microfilmed, otherwise you would have to visit their
library in SLC. Availability can be checked online at the FamilySearch
website It is worth a shot. I think it is an excellent book about the
genealogies of Nochistán and the surrounding areas. The introduction is by
    Professor Mariano González Leal.
