OK, I've almost given up on this GEDCOM "thingee". Although I can read them (as a guest); how can I be a contributor on it. PLEASE don't tell me I have to buy different software. My Family Tree software is fully capable to convert to GEDCOM files at a mouse-click.

In addition, I cannot read other people's FILES because I don't have MicroSoft Word; please don't tell me I have to buy it for a few hundred bucks.

Access should be avaiable to ALL NuestrosRanchos members. Are you reading this, Primo Joseph Puentes?

I do not know how to contribute to the GEDCOM section, so that's a question for someone else.

However, I do know that files that are in Microsoft Word format can be opened by Open Office, which can be downloaded free at OpenOffice.org

    Word Files and GEDCOM

    Joseph:

To add information to the GEDCOM database all you need to do is request that a tree be set up for you on the database. Then you should be able to either upload a GEDCOM file that you have created in some other software (you can use the free PAF software) or simply use the database as your genealogy repository and manually enter data directly into the database on the website. This is explained in an email that all members get when they first use the GEDCOM database.

As for viewing other members Word file attachments, Microsoft gas a free Word viewer you can download that allows you to view but nit create or edit Word files.

The Open Office software that was mentioned is another option. It is free as long as you download it as opposed to order a disk.
